Principles of Flight - Four Forces of Flight (1)

Aerodynamic Force refers to the relative motion between the aircraft and the air surrounding it. It can be simplified into Four Forces : Lift, Weight, Thrust and Drag.

Lift is the force mainly generated by wings and is perpendicular to the relative airflow.

Weight is the aircraft's body force generated by gravitation (地心吸力). It always points towards the center of the earth.

Thrust is the forward force generated by the aircraft's engine and acts parallel to the flight path.

Drag is the resistant force opposite to the flight direction.

Remember, in straight and level fight without acceleration,

Lift = Weight
Thrust = Drag
